Image
March 27: With a vision to strengthen energy security and rural resilience, initiatives like GOBARdhan under SBM-G are empowering households to become self-reliant through sustainable and locally available resources. These forward-looking efforts are enhancing stability in energy access while promoting clean and eco-friendly alternatives across rural India. One such example is Krimachi village of Udhampur District where a Biogas plant was made functional in February this year. The plant has been transforming locally available cattle dung into clean cooking energy while also improving sanitation and waste management. Impact: Building Rural Self-Reliance   Energy Independence: Households now generate their own cooking fuel, reducing dependence on external LPG supply chains Financial Independence: Significant savings on recurring LPG expenses, easing the burden on the families. Swachh Bharat Mission: Understanding BOD and COD in Wastewater

Image
WHAT IS BOD? Biological/Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD )  is an essential metric in wastewater treatment processes to assess how effective the treatment process is. If BOD levels are too high they indicate insufficient treatment. 👉 More waste in water = More oxygen used by bacteria THE PROBLEM ❌ Open defecation ❌ Wastewater flowing into drains & ponds ❌ No treatment of household waste ➡️ Leads to HIGH BOD ➡️ Water becomes dirty & unsafe WHY IT MATTERS ⚠️ Less oxygen for fish & aquatic life ⚠️ Spread of diseases ⚠️ Unsafe water for daily use THE SOLUTION  ✅ Use toilets – Keep villages ODF ✅ Proper waste disposal ✅ Soak pits & septic tanks ✅ Liquid Waste Management systems THE RESULT ✔️ Less waste in water ✔️ Lower BOD levels ✔️ Clean & healthy water bodies Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD):  It is a measure of how much oxygen is required to chemically break down pollutants in water. In simple terms: It tells you how polluted the wa...
