Swachhata Green Leaf Rating Initiative: Field Verification of Hotels Accelerates across Srinagar

Srinagar | March 24, 2026 : As part of the ongoing implementation of the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating (SGLR) initiative under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen), the Verification Sub-Committee today conducted field inspections of key hospitality establishments in Srinagar. The hotels covered during today’s verification drive include Golden Tulip, Four Points, Lemon Tree, and Vintage Hotel. The exercise forms a crucial component of the SGLR framework, which aims to promote safe sanitation practices and sustainable waste management across hospitality facilities.

The verification was carried out by a multi-departmental team comprising representatives from Revenue, Rural Development (SBM-G), Tourism, Power Development, Roads & Buildings, Health, Food & Supplies, and Srinagar Municipal Corporation. This collaborative approach ensures a transparent, robust, and comprehensive assessment process.
The Swachhata Green Leaf Rating system, developed by the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, encourages hotels and other tourist facilities to adopt scientific waste management practices, including solid waste management, faecal sludge management, and greywater management.
Out of the 13 identified hotels, verification of 7 establishments has been completed so far. The Verification Sub-Committee will continue inspections of the remaining hotels in the coming days. The initiative is expected to not only enhance sanitation standards but also strengthen the image of Jammu & Kashmir as a clean, sustainable, and tourist-friendly destination.
