Fueling Progress through SBM (G): The Story of Samba’s First 25 CUM Biogas Success
How a 25 CUM Biogas Plant Transforms Lives, Empowers Communities, Promotes Circular Economy
In Badhori Panchayat, Samba, we aren't just managing waste, we’re harvesting energy. With our 25 CUM Biogas Plant, we are turning organic waste into a clean, blue flame for cooking and high-quality manure for our fields. This is the Circular Economy in its purest form.

Jammu: The installation of a 25 CUM-capacity biogas
plant under SBM-G has propelled the efforts of Mr Dinkar Kaushal, local
entrepreneur and owner of Santosh Janaak Dairy Farms in Badhori Panchayat,
Samba, J&K, to an entirely new level.
This upgraded unit now processes a much larger volume of cattle waste, generating more biogas and producing higher quantities of organic manure. And the impact doesn’t end at the boundaries of his dairy. The surplus biogas is now benefitting households in the vicinity, particularly families whose members work at the farm. These households now have access to clean, affordable fuel right at their doorstep, reducing their dependence on LPG and other traditional fuels.
The initiative has strengthened community bonds and shown
how an initiative once put into proper use can uplift an entire neighbourhood.
Shri Dinkar Kaushal has emerged as a powerful example of how
rural entrepreneurship can grow when blended with innovation and sustainable
practices, giving a strong push to the idea of a circular economy.
Under the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G), his dairy
farm has evolved into a model of eco-friendly, resource-efficient agriculture.
Over the last three years, Dinkar has
adopted a comprehensive waste-processing system that
converts every by-product of his dairy into something useful. Wastewater is
treated and reused for irrigation, reducing water wastage and keeping his
fields flourishing year-round.
At the same time, cattle dung is routed into the biogas
unit, installed under SBM-G—producing clean energy and nutrient-rich organic
manure.
This shift has eliminated the need for chemical fertilizers.
The organic manure has rejuvenated soil health, enhanced crop productivity, and
saved him a significant amount of money annually. Meanwhile, the biogas
generated meets most of the energy needs of his farm, making him self-reliant
and reducing dependence on LPG and firewood.
A Change-Maker in Rural Sustainability
Dinkar Kaushal’s journey, from a conventional dairy farmer
to a champion of sustainable development, showcases what rural India can
achieve when innovation meets determination. His work reflects the broader
vision of SBM-G: empowering communities, reducing waste, and promoting clean,
green livelihoods.
His story is not just about producing milk; it’s about
producing change. Let us draw inspiration from this real-life change-maker and
continue building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for all.
