Beyond LPG: How This Village In Udhampur is Cooking a Self-Reliant Future under SBM-G

March 27:

With a vision to strengthen energy security and rural resilience, initiatives like GOBARdhan under SBM-G are empowering households to become self-reliant through sustainable and locally available resources. These forward-looking efforts are enhancing stability in energy access while promoting clean and eco-friendly alternatives across rural India.

One such example is Krimachi village of Udhampur District where a Biogas plant was made functional in February this year. The plant has been transforming locally available cattle dung into clean cooking energy while also improving sanitation and waste management.

Impact: Building Rural Self-Reliance

Energy Independence: Households now generate their own cooking fuel, reducing dependence on external LPG supply chains

Financial Independence: Significant savings on recurring LPG expenses, easing the burden on the families.

Resource Independence: Efficient use of locally available cattle dung ensures sustainability without external inputs.

Livelihood Support: The by-product slurry serves as rich organic manure, reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and supporting agriculture.

Time & Drudgery Reduction: Clean and readily available fuel eliminates firewood collection, particularly benefiting women.

In essence: Krimchi stands as a model of how SBM-G's GOBARdhan initiative enables villages to turn challenges into opportunities, ensuring clean energy access, economic savings, and true grassroots self-reliance.
