BK Pora, Budgam: In a significant step towards environmental conservation and cleanliness, Block BK Pora today carried out a waste clearance drive along the banks of the Dudhganga river. The initiative aimed at removing waste and restoring the riverbank to its natural state.   The clearance drive witnessed active participation of field staff and locals, reflecting a shared commitment to protect water bodies and ensure a cleaner environment.  The drive not only helped in beautifying the riverbank but also highlighted the importance of community involvement in safeguarding natural resources.   Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen): A Transformative Journey By Raj Kishor Kustwar Srinagar: Launched in 2014, the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen)  has been a landmark initiative driving a behavioural shift across rural India. Its first phase focused on eliminating open defecation, while the ongoing Phase-II places a sharper lens on sustainable sanitation, with an emphasis on Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM), environmental sustainability, and community participation. In the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the mission has made remarkable strides despite geographical, climatic, and infrastructural challenges. With two administrative divisions (Kashmir and Jammu), 20 districts, 285 blocks, and over 6,216 villages, the region presents a complex yet inspiring model of rural sanitation advancement. Every week, without fail, they clear the segregation sheds, making sure no corner overflowed and no odor lingered.  With this repeated activity, streets look brighter, sheds stay clean, and the air carries a sense of pride.  Thanks to regular monitoring and teamwork, hygiene soared and so did morale.  And so, Block #Beerwah found its rhythm again, not just through effort, but through unity. Efforts Underway to Achieve ‘Zero Landfill’ Across All Routes Srinagar, August 6, 2025: As the sacred Amarnath Yatra draws to a close, Directorate of Rural Sanitation ramped up sanitation and waste management efforts across all pilgrimage routes, aiming to ensure a clean and eco-friendly environment through a ‘Zero Landfill’ mission. The intensified sanitation drives involve coordinated efforts with the focus on waste segregation, eco-friendly disposal , and timely transportation of collected waste to authorized processing facilities. Special teams have been deployed at critical points including base camps, langar sites, and high-altitude trekking paths. Promoting Waste Segregation and 3Rs Through Door-to-Door Awareness in Block Shadimarg, Pulwama Aug 0, 2025: In an effort to build a cleaner and more sustainable community, a door-to-door counselling campaign was recently conducted in Block Shadimarg, Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir , focusing on the segregation of waste at source and the promotion of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle . The campaign aimed to sensitize households about the importance of responsible waste management and the role of individual action in protecting the environment. Field workers and volunteers visited homes across the block, engaging directly with residents, explaining the need for separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste , and guiding them on how to implement it effectively at the household level.
