Promoting Waste Segregation and 3Rs Through Door-to-Door Awareness in Block Shadimarg, Pulwama

Aug 0, 2025: In an effort to build a cleaner and more sustainable community, a door-to-door counselling campaign was recently conducted in Block Shadimarg, Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir, focusing on the segregation of waste at source and the promotion of the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

The campaign aimed to sensitize households about the importance of responsible waste management and the role of individual action in protecting the environment. Field workers and volunteers visited homes across the block, engaging directly with residents, explaining the need for separating biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste, and guiding them on how to implement it effectively at the household level.

In addition, IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials—including brochures, posters, and flyers—were distributed to reinforce the key messages. These materials highlighted practical tips on reducing daily waste, reusing common household items, and recycling practices suited for rural and semi-urban settings.

The initiative received a positive response from the local community, with many households expressing willingness to adopt waste segregation and sustainable waste practices. The counselling sessions also served as a platform to clear misconceptions, address doubts, and encourage behavioral change.

This grassroots-level initiative is a small but critical step toward building a Swachh and Sustainable Shadimarg, aligned with the broader goals of Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) and solid waste management guidelines.
