SANJY2025: Sanitation Drives Intensify as Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Nears Conclusion

Efforts Underway to Achieve ‘Zero Landfill’ Across All Routes

Srinagar, August 6, 2025:
As the sacred Amarnath Yatra draws to a close, Directorate of Rural Sanitation ramped up sanitation and waste management efforts across all pilgrimage routes, aiming to ensure a clean and eco-friendly environment through a ‘Zero Landfill’ mission.

The intensified sanitation drives involve coordinated efforts with the focus on waste segregation, eco-friendly disposal, and timely transportation of collected waste to authorized processing facilities.
Special teams have been deployed at critical points including base camps, langar sites, and high-altitude trekking paths. Biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste is being meticulously separated to prevent any long-term environmental damage in the ecologically sensitive Himalayan region.

The commitment to a clean yatra is part of a broader initiative to promote sustainable pilgrimage practices. Pilgrims and service providers have been cooperative, responding positively to awareness campaigns on hygiene and responsible waste disposal.

The administration has expressed confidence in achieving zero-waste benchmarks this year, reinforcing the message of spiritual fulfillment hand-in-hand with environmental stewardship.
